Most cities simply demolish their history in the name of progress. In San José, they save it.
History Park is a unique park located on the east side of the city where historic buildings find a new life. One by one, these buildings are creating a reconstituted, historic San José.
The park boasts 27 buildings, both original and reconstructions. Included are the Pacific Hotel, the San José Firehouse, a gas station, livery stable, many private dwellings, and a recreation of the San José Light Tower, a landmark of downtown in the late 19th century.
The park also features a trolley line, with historic trolleys that are pressed into service in modern San José during special holidays.
Admission to the park is free. A limited number of buildings are open on any given day, with docents available. Open every day. See website for operating hours.
